Maddie was playing in the kitchen and the two older ones were sweeping up under the table, they walked by her to put the broom and dustpan back and Ruby dropped the dustpan. Maddie started a BLOOD CURDLING scream. She is usually really laid back, so I was surprised she screamed so loud!
I thought they had dropped the dustpan on her head – I bent over to pick her up and she moved her hand, and there was a puddle of blood. I picked her up and her pinky was DRIPPING blood! I tried to get a towel as there was literally blood everywhere. The three older ones ran upstairs screaming. Sierra said afterwards it looked like someone had murdered Maddie.
I kept pressure on it for a few minutes, looked again, and it was still dripping blood. Ran it under water, and it was dripping blood. Her nail was cut off and on the outside of her pinky its cut all the way through – from a PLASTIC DUSTPAN!!!
I wasn’t sure if it needed stitches on not, so I called the clinic on base – I was told they could put in a consult and someone would get back to me ‘by the end of the day.’ I told them, she’s still bleeding, I guess I’m taking her in town. And she was screaming the whole time
Dropped the kiddos off next door, started the drive in town – poor baby screamed the whole 40 minutes!
Got to the ER, they said her finger was too small for stitches, but they cleaned it, and held it together while the nurse dermabonded (super glue for skin) it back together (and her own fingers to Maddie!) She will definitely lose her nail, they’re not sure if it will grow back.
I nursed her and she fell asleep in the car on the way home
Here are the pics of her finger, and of course, now that she’s all cleaned up, we have our happy baby back!

Okay, as this Grandma is crying while reading the post to Poppa and worried sick....I'm much relieved to see that she is smiling after the horrible ordeal. Keep us posted on how she is doing, please. Bless her heart and give her a HUGE hug and kiss from Grandma Patty. Also to Ruby as I'm sure she feels bad about the accident...
Oh poor baby! So glad that she is smiling and hope it heals cleanly and quickly.
Poor sweet baby! It's always so heart wrenching when littles ones get hurt. You had amazing presence of mind to calmly drive 40 minutes to the doc with a screaming child. Hugs for all of you!
This just breaks my heart! Poor little thing! I am glad she is smiling again!
OHHHH poor baby and momma and the other girls...OH man!!!
Poor little baby. I can immagine both you and the girls were scared badly.
Hugs and cuddles,
Petra
